National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is known as an agency handling high profile cases in the country. It is the equivalent of FBI in the United States of America. NBI Agent Qualifications

·         Must be a Filipino Citizen.

·         Must have a good moral character and in excellent physical and mental health.

·         Must be a Lawyer or Certified Public Accountant.

·         Must have no pending criminal, civil or administrative charges and never convicted of any crime.

·         At least 5'5" in height for males; 5'3" for females.

·         Between 25 and 35 years of age.

·         With excellent vision within normal range.

·         Must have no tattoo marks or pierced ears.

NBI Special Investigator Qualifications

·         Must be a Filipino Citizen,

·         Must have a good moral character and in excellent physical and mental health.

·         Must be a Bachelor Degree holder.

·         Must be a Professional civil service eligible or board passer.

·         Must be a Lawyer or Certified Public Accountant

·         With a general weighted average of 84% in the transcript of records, without any failing grade.

·         Must have no pending criminal, civil or administrative charges and never convicted of any crime.

·         At least 5'5" in height for males; 5'3" for females.

·         Between 25 and 35 years of age.

·         With excellent vision within normal range.

·         Must have no tattoo marks or pierced ears.

Why do need to be a lawyer or a CPA to qualify as an NBI agent?

It is simple, as an NBI agent, familiarity to the law and experiences in accounting are needed. In solving cases for example, an agent must have expertise on law enforcement and gathering evidences. NBI is an agency under the Department of Justice and is also a large organization and it needed people who have knowledge on law enforcement and financial management and other related works.

NBI has its own training program and facility, the NBI Academy. It is responsible for recruitment, training and development of all NBI agent and personnel. NBI academy also accepts personnel of Philippine National Police (PNP) and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for skills training and development. It is located at Loakan Rd, Baguio City.

What are the functions of an NBI Agent?

The NBI Agent shall have the following powers and functions:

1.     Conduct searches, arrests and seizures in accordance with existing laws, rules and regulations;

2.     Issue subpoena or subpoena duces tecum for the appearance at Government expense of any person for investigation;

3.     Receives statements under oath of any person of persons so summoned in the conduct of such investigation;

4.     Administer oaths in cases under investigation;

5.     Own, possess and carry, outside their office and residence, suitable and adequate firearms for their personal protection in connection with their duties and for the proper protection of witnesses and persons in custody; and

6.     Have access, examine, secure, take custody of and photocopy public records.

How much is the salary of an NBI Agent?

NBI Agents has a Salary Grade of 18 to 22 which is equivalent to 31,000 pesos up to 42,000 pesos according to the latest tranche of monthly salary of national government personnel.
